HC Deb 05 March 1985 vol 74 c440W
Mr. Peter Robinson

asked the Attorney-General how many people charged with offences on the evidence of converted terrorists have been found not guilty by the courts in Northern Ireland.

The Attorney-General

In the years 1983–1985 to date there have been acquittals of 88 persons in trials for terrorist offences where evidence of alleged accomplices formed part of the Crown case. In addition, 14 further persons who had been convicted in such circumstances had their convictions quashed on appeal to the Court of Appeal.

Mr. Peter Robinson

asked the Attorney-General how many people charged with offences on the evidence of converted terrorists have had the charges withdrawn as a result of the evidence being withdrawn.

The Attorney-General

The information is being obtained and I shall reply as soon as possible.
