HC Deb 04 March 1985 vol 74 c364W
Mr. Ron Brown

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what is Her Majesty's Government's policy on the possibility of the reunification of South Korea and North Korea based on the concept of confederation; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Luce

Our view is that the reunification of the Korean peninsula is primarily a matter for the Koreans to pursue through direct contacts between the two sides. The meetings last November marked a welcome step in contacts between north and south. It is regrettable that this process has received a setback as a result of the recent North Korean insistence on postponement.
