§ Lord James Douglas-Hamilton
asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he has yet completed the review of the use of surveillance equipment by the police; whether guidelines on this and on the work of special branches have yet been issued; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. Younger
The review of the use of surveillance equipment has recently been completed and revised498W guidelines have been issued to the police in Scotland. Following a separate review, guidelines on special branches also have been issued. I am arranging for copies of both sets of guidelines to be placed in the Libraries of both Houses.
