HC Deb 24 June 1985 vol 81 cc304-5W
Mr. Ron Brown

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many young people in Scotland have had experience of the youth training scheme; and how many subsequently secured permanent jobs.

Mr. Allan Stewart

Some 83,733 young people have entered the youth training scheme in Scotland between its inception in 1983 and the end of May 1985. Precise information on the number of YTS trainees subsequently taking up employment is not available. However, the results from the Manpower Services Commission's sample survey of 15 per cent. of young people who left the scheme between July and September 1984 suggest that some 56 per cent. of leavers in Scotland were in employment some three months after leaving the scheme. The full results of the sample survey are available in the Library.
