HC Deb 14 June 1985 vol 80 c585W
Mrs. Beckett

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is the estimated extra cost in terms of supplementary benefit and housing benefit of extending statutory sick pay to 28 weeks.

Mr. Whitney

It is not expected that there will be any significant increase in the numbers claiming supplementary benefit and housing benefit as a result of extending statutory sick pay to 28 weeks.

Ms. Beckett

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is the extra annual cost in terms of supplementary benefit and housing benefit of the eight week statutory sick pay scheme.

Mr. Whitney

The information requested is not available. Statistics of those receiving both statutory sick pay and housing benefit are not collected. Supplementary benefit statistics provide information of claimants getting sick pay from an employer but do not differentiate between occupational sick pay and SSP.
