HC Deb 14 June 1985 vol 80 cc553-4W
Mr. William

Ross asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many rounds of each type of commonly used ammunition for (a) .22 rifles and (b) shotguns, a firearms dealer in Northern Ireland is allowed to hold on his premises.

Mr. Scott

Each year the Secretary of State gives a direction to the Chief Constable under Article 37(3) of the Firearms (Northern Ireland) Order as to the conditions to be imposed on firearms dealers' certificates of registration. The directive includes restrictions on the amount of ammunition which firearms dealers may hold on their premises. The numbers of rounds in individual cases varies between dealers in the light of the previous year's sales of each category of ammunition by the dealer, as well as the standard of security provided.
