§ 23. Mr. Peter Bruinvelsasked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he will report on the security arrangements surrounding the recent local government elections.
§ Mr. ScottThe police as usual made the arrangements they deemed necessary to ensure the maintenance of law and order during the period up to the district council elections on 15 May and on the day itself. While a number of incidents occured during the period, none significantly affected the poll. I know the House will join me in paying a warm tribute to the security forces in Northern Ireland for their work in preserving the integrity of the electoral system.
§ 25. Mr. William Rossasked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what proposals he has to make for amending the provisions of the Elections (Northern Ireland) Act 1985.
