§ 42. Mr. Penhaligon
asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will seek to modify those parts of the Trade Union Act 1984 which allows leading members of trade unions who are members of the union executive to avoid regular re-election merely by giving up their casting vote.
§ Mr. Peter Bottomley
Part I of the Trade Union Act, which provides for the election of all voting members of 403W a union's principal executive committee by secret ballot every five years, comes into force on 1 October 1985. It would be premature to seek modifications before the provisions take effect.
