§ Mr. Skeetasked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what assessment has been made of the compliance costs to business of consumer safety legislation.
§ Mr. FletcherWe assess the broad costs and benefits of consumer safety legislation whenever consideration is given to amending the legislation, introducing new regulations or reviewing the need for existing ones. In addition, the balance of compliance costs and benefits of consumer safety legislation in general was examined in the context of the recent "Burdens on Business" scrutiny. Following this scrutiny, we are now pressing ahead with greater use of cost benefit analysis in making and reviewing regulations.
