HC Deb 03 June 1985 vol 80 c75W
Mr. Corbyn

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement on developments in the case of the Anglo-Chilean citizen, William Beausire, who disappeared in 1974; and what representations have recently been made to the Chilean authorities on this case.

Mr. Renton

The Chilean authorities say that their investigations about Mr. Beausire's disappearance have produced no result. In February 1985 they suspended further judicial review of all such cases pending presentation of new evidence. We are continuing to press them for a satisfactory explanation. The matter is also being pursued with the Argentine Government through the Swiss protecting power. In January 1985, we were informed that there was no evidence in the report of the Argentine National Commission of the Disappearance of Persons about Mr. Beausire.
