§ Mr. MellorInformation about offences recorded and cleared-up by police forces other than the Metropolitan police is available centrally by police force area only. Statistics of offences recorded by each police force are published annually in "Criminal Statistics, England and Wales" (table 2.4 of the volume for 1983, Cmnd. 9349). Corresponding information for 1984 was published in table 6 of Home Office Statistical Bulletin 6/85 on 12 March 1985.
The number of notifiable offences recorded by Greater Manchester police which were cleared up in each of the years 1975–84 is given in the following table. The number of offences cleared up may be affected by variations in police recording practices. Offences cleared up in one year may include offences initially recorded in previous years.
