asked the Secretary of State for the Environment when he expects to announce Her Majesty's Government's response to the report of the joint review committee on the effectiveness of the Control of Pollution (Special Waste) Regulations 1980.

Not yet. As indicated when publication of the report was announced on 2 May at column 185, my right hon. Friend wants to give others concerned an opportunity to express views on the report before reaching final decisions.

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will seek a meeting with representatives of waste disposal authorities before announcing Her Majesty's Government's decision on the report of the joint review committee on the Control of Pollution Regulations 1980.

If the local authority associations would like a meeting to discuss the outcome of the review, I will be glad to arrange it.
