HC Deb 26 July 1985 vol 83 c845W
Mr. Hancock

asked the Prime Minister if Her Majesty's Government propose to make representations to the South African Government about the imposition of a state of emergency in South Africa; and if she will make a statement.

The Prime Minister

As the joint statement by Foreign Ministers issued in Brussels on 22 July made clear, we share the deep concern of our partners at the effects of the declaration of a state of emergency in South Africa, which underlines the urgent need for fundamental reform. We look to the South African Government to lift the state of emergency as soon as possible.
