HC Deb 26 July 1985 vol 83 c805W
Mrs. Clwyd

asked the Secretary of State for Employment (1) how many females under 18 years have been unemployed since they left school; and if he will make a statement;

(2) how many females aged under 18 years have been unemployed since they left school; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Alan Clark

The1 following information is in the Library. On 13 June 1985 there were 44,939 female unemployed school leavers claiming unemployment benefit in the United Kingdom. In addition there were 46,828 female non-claimant school leavers registered at careers offices. While these figures relate to people under 18 who have never had a job since leaving full-time education, not all of them will necessarily have been continuously unemployed since then, for example some may have had a period out of the labour force or had a place on the youth training scheme without a contract of employment.
