HC Deb 26 July 1985 vol 83 c844W
Mr. Best

asked the Prime Minister if she will give the figures for each of the last 10 years for which they are available, both numerically and as a percentage of the whole class, of those leaving each of the top three grades of the Civil Service for reasons other than normal retirement, redundancy or ill health.

The Prime Minister

Statistics of voluntary resignations from the three grades are tabulated as follows. These figures should be read in conjunction with the comments in paragraphs 46–53 of the recent report of the Review Body on Top Salaries (Cmnd. 9525).

The Prime Minister

Paragraph 54 of the eighth report of the Review Body on Top Salaries (Cmnd. 9525) reports that morale in the Civil Service is unfortunately at a low ebb for reasons set out in paragraph 55. It is our earnest hope that this situation will be rectified.
