asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will estimate the cost of providing retirement pensions at the current United Kingdom level for (a) all British pensioners living in the Republic of South Africa and (b) all British pensioners aged 75 and over living in the Republic of South Africa.

Mr. Whitney

The cost of paying retirement pensions to British pensioners living in South Africa at current United Kingdom levels, including those of 75 years and over, is estimated at about £8.5 million. Separate figures for pensioners aged 75 and over are not available.
