HC Deb 25 July 1985 vol 83 c681W
Mr. William Ross

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he will call for a report from the Chief Constable of the Royal Ulster Constabulary as to those processions involving bands in connection with the local government elections in May which took place in the local government districts of Londonderry, Limavady, Coleraine, Magherafelt, Cookstown and Strabane and which necessitated a police presence and as to the total cost of policing each procession; and whether the prescribed notice was received by the police in each case.

Mr. Scott

[pursuant to his reply, 24 July 1985]: The Chief Constable regularly informs my right hon. Friend and me of law enforcement issues, including the conduct of parades and marches and the police resources involved.

Mr. William Ross

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what was the cost of the police operation to stop the parade through the Gortalowry estate in Cookstown on 28 June.

Mr. Scott

[pursuant to his reply, 24 July 1985]: Precise details are not readily available. However the cost of policing this parade has been estimated at £5,600.
