Mr. Tony Banks

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what was the total number of permanent staff directly employed by the London Docklands development corporation as at 31 March 1982, 31 March 1983, 31 March 1984 and 31 March 1985.

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment (1) what steps the London Docklands development corporation has taken to provide guidance to developers on provisions for disabled people in public buildings as required by the Chronically Sick and Disabled Persons Act 1970 and the Town and Country Planning Act 1971 as amended by the Disabled Persons Act 1981;

(2) how many (a) privately owned units and (b) publicly owned or housing association units on London Docklands development corporation-owned land have been designed for people with disabilities; and what is the London Docklands development corporation target number for such dwellings on London Docklands development corporation-owned land;

(3) how many women have obtained new jobs in the London Docklands development corporation area; what industries these women are employed in; and what percentage of total new jobs it represents;

(4) what steps the London Docklands development corporation has taken to seek to ensure that new leisure facilities in the London Dock lands development corporation areas are designed to give access for the disabled and elderly; and what steps are being taken to provide sports and leisure facilities that are suited to the specific requirements of the disabled and elderly;

(5) how many construction jobs in the London Docklands development corporation area have been taken (a) by women and (b) by people from the black and ethnic minority communities;

(6) what provision the London Docklands development corporation has made of roads and pavements in their area for people with impaired mobility, wheelchair users, and pedestrians with aural and visual impairments;

(7) if the London Docklands development corporation keeps a register which indicates the number of members of black and other ethnic minority communities employed;

(8) pursuant to his reply of 29 April, Official Report, columns 31–32, if he will list the individual development initiatives for the royal docks being discussed by the London Docklands development corporation.

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether Inter-action of any of its subsidiaries is receiving either capital or revenue funding from the London Docklands Development Corporation; and if he will make a statement.

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what steps the London Docklands Development Corporation has taken to ensure that the design of houses on London docklands development-owned land contains provisions for the disabled.

Sir George Young

[pursuant to his reply, 22 July 1985]: Provision for the disabled on sites released to private developers is a matter for the prospective purchasors and builder to negotiate. Provision is made for disabled accommodation, to wheelchair and mobility standards, for local authority and housing association developments on corporation-owned land.

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what steps the London Docklands Development Corporation intends to take to ensure that the composition of private housing estates on London Docklands Development Corporation-owned land reflects the multicultural nature of London.

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what training programmes are used within the London Docklands Development Corporation to create awareness of racism and sexism.

[pursuant to his reply, 22 July 1985]: None. The corporation do meet all statutory requirements in respect of equal opportunities, as it relates to selection, promotion, training and termination.
