§ Mr. McNamaraasked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what is the size of the present prison population in Northern Ireland divided into terrorist type offenders and other offenders categorised by age and by sex in the following groups; under 18 years old, 18 to 25 years, 25 years to 30 years, 30 years to 40 years, 40 years to 50 years, 50 years to 60 years and over 60 years giving a breakdown of the length of sentence being served by percentage of the total prison population.
§ Mr. ScottThe latest date for which the information requested is available is 16 June 1985. On that date the total prison population—including unconvicted inmates and persons detained under sentence in young offenders' centres and under section 73 of the Children and Young Persons Act (Northern Ireland) 1968—was 2,138. The details requested in respect of sentenced inmates are set out in the following table.
