§ 28. Mr. Peter Bruinvelsasked the Secretary of State for Social Services what information he has concerning the number of surrogate children that have been born; whether they were born in National Health Service hospitals; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. Kenneth ClarkeWe do not have complete and reliable information. As I said in my reply to my hon. Friend on 21 January, at column354, hospitals could have considerable difficulty in distinguishing between surrogate mothers and other expectant mothers. As my hon. Friend knows, the Government's Bill to outlaw commercial surrogacy agencies has today received Royal Assent.
