§ Mr. Bill Walker
asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will give details of total expenditure by Scottish local authorities under section 83 of the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1973 in each of the last five years.

§ Mr. Ancram
Details of expenditure incurred by authorities under section 83 of the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1973 have only been collected centrally 453W since 1982–83. The figures for total expenditure for 1982–83 and 1983–84 are given in the table. Information for 1984–85 is not yet available.
