asked the Secretary of State for Transport what representations he has received following his decision to allow Singapore Airlines to open new services to Manchester.

I have received a number of indications of approval of the decision to allow Singapore Airlines to operate services to Manchester, including one from the chairman of the Manchester International Airport Authority, who has expressed publicly his delight and appreciation of the decision.

asked the Secretary of State for Transport why the agreement for direct flights between Manchester international airport and Singapore by Singapore Airlines does not take effect until 1 April 1986.

The agreement that the new service between Manchester and Singapore could start from April 1986 reflected the wishes of SIA.

asked the Secretary of State for Transport what communication his Department has had with Singapore Airlines following the granting of permission to the airline to open new services from Manchester to Singapore in April 1986.

There has so far been no need for any further communications with Singapore Airlines in this matter.

asked the Secretary of State for Transport whether he is satisfied with the progress being made in achieving a commercial agreement between British Airways and Singapore Airlines upon which his permission for the new Singapore Airlines services to Manchester is contingent; and if he will make a statement.
