§ Mr. Kilroy-Silkasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) what was the ethnic origin of those (a) men, (b) women and (c) juveniles received into prison department establishments in 1983 and 1984;
(2) if he now has an ethnic breakdown of prisoners serving custodial sentences.
§ Mr. MellorFollowing the introduction on 1 June 1984 of revised procedures for collecting information on the ethnic origin of persons received into prison department establishments, the quality of the data has improved and it is expected that information about receptions will become available later this year. My right hon. and learned Friend will then arrange for its publication. Information about the whole of the sentenced population including those received before 1 June 1984 will not become available until some time later.
