§ Mr. ButcherThe Government's primary objectives in space are to assist the development and maintenance of competitive industrial and commercial organisations able to produce and exploit space hardware, software and services, particularly in the fields of communications and remote sensing; and to make use of space techniques. in its own activities, to maximum national benefit, for example by undertaking a balanced programme of research at the frontiers of knowledge in the major areas of space science. The Government pursue these objectives through a suitable combination of national and international programmes.
