§ Mr. Sheermanasked the Secretary of State for Employment, pursuant to the answer of the Minister of State on 20 November, Official Report, column 138, if he will list the documents he has received from the organisation Youthaid in the past six months; and if he will also list those in which there are inaccuracies.
§ Mr. Peter MorrisonThe answer referred to was given in response to a question about the destinations of young people leaving the youth training scheme. Youthaid had written to me on this subject on 5 November and to my right hon. Friend on 19 November. In both these letters, Youthaid wrongly claimed that participation in the scheme did not offer young people a good chance of a job at the end, a point it chose to publicise as part of its apparent campaign to denigrate the achievements of the scheme.
In fact, the information available so far is very encouraging. The latest sample survey carried out by the Manpower Services Commission showed that almost 60 per cent. of young people leaving the scheme went into work and that an additional 13 per cent. either went into, or intended to go into, further education or training.
