§ Sir Keith JosephAll Her Majesty's inspectors are recruited through open competitions overseen by the Civil Service Commission. They are subsequently formally appointed by Her Majesty in Council, and all are required to complete satisfactorily a period of probation. Two hundred and eight inspectors have been so appointed since 1 January 1979.

§ Sir Keith JosephTwenty-six members of Her Majesty's Inspectorate in England have specialist concerns in relation to multiracial education which occupy significant proportions of their time. Other inspectors are also involved in multiracial education matters from time to time.
