HC Deb 26 February 1985 vol 74 c102W
Mr. Ron Brown

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many people died from hypothermia in Scotland in 1984; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. John MacKay

The provisional figure for deaths in Scotland in 1984 with any mention of hypothermia as a cause is 174. There were 51 deaths in which hypothermia was the underlying cause; in the remaining 123 cases, hypothermia was mentioned on the death certificate but was not considered to be the underlying cause of death.
