§ Mr. Alfred Morris
asked the Secretary of State for Social Services to what factors he attributes the reduction in the number of people taking post-qualifying courses for social work with deaf people between 1979 and 1983, given in his answer of 23 January, Official Report, columns 463–4.
§ Mr. Newton
The numbers of people taking these courses have never been high; it has long been difficult to find social workers wishing to specialise in this way. The Department is in touch with the relevant professional bodies with a view to improving the situation.
