asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many resident girls aged 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 and 16 years have died as a result of abortions in each year since 1968.

The following numbers of deaths resulting form abortions — all forms including spontaneous abortions—among girls aged 16 and under resident in England and Wales were registered in the years indicated:

  • 1968 one 15 year old
  • 1970 two 13 year olds
  • 1971 one 12 year old
  • 136
  • 1972 two 15 year olds
  • 1978 one 15 year old
  • 1979 one 16 year old
  • 1981 one 16 year old

No such deaths were registered in the remaining years.
