Mr. Wheeler

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will list the names of those police officers killed on duty in England and Wales since 1965; what was the method of killing in each case; whether drugs or alcohol were a known feature in the behaviour of the assailant or assailants; what was the number of cases in which a suspect or suspects were subsequently (a) arrested and (b) brought to trial; and, in each case, where a conviction was secured, what was the nature of the sentence imposed.

The available information is given in the following table. Information on whether drugs or alcohol were a known feature in the behaviour of the suspects of these homicides could be provided only at disproportionate cost.
