Figures for the 1979–80 financial year are not available in the form requested. The figures for 1982–83 and 1983–84 are shown below, but figures on the same basis for 1984–85 are not yet available.
The averages can be derived from departmental running costs of £15,197 million in 1982–83 — [Vol. 47, c. 76–78]—and £16,050 million in 1983–84—[Vol. 68, c. 271–273]. The staff totals used to calculate the averages are:
