HL Deb 21 February 1985 vol 460 c804WA
Lord Kennet

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many researchers and analysts in, or on behalf of, each of the three Services, and the Ministry of Defence, are studying strategic issues (including "the Soviet threat" on land, at sea, and from the air), where the work is carried on, and what unclassified publications have resulted from it in the last five years.

Lord Trefgarne

I refer the noble Lord to the answer I gave on 31st January (Official Report, cols. 822–23). Research into strategic issues is also undertaken at many universities and other institutions around the country.

A complete list of unclassified publications on strategic issues produced in the last five years is not readily available. Examples of such publications are the annual Statements on the Defence Estimates, various Defence Open Government Documents, and the NATO publications, NATO and the Warsaw Pact: Force Comparisons, to which the Ministry of Defence contributed.
