§ Dr. Cunninghamasked the Secretary of State for the Environment for what purpose the Sports Council grant-aided the Streatham ice rink to the extent of £50,000; and if he is satisfied that the necessary criteria set for receipt of this money have been met.
§ Mr. Patrick JenkinThe grant was offered to secure the continued availability of the facility, which the Sports Council recognised as having strategic importance in the development of both recreational and competitive ice skating. I understand that the Sports Council's normal conditions of grant apply. In particular, the facility will be kept operative for a minimum period of 10 years (from 29 February 1980). If closed within this period, or if any of the grant conditions are not met, an appropriate proportion of grant will be refunded to the council.
