§ Mr. Deakinsasked the Secretary of State for Employment if, in evaluating the relationship between the earnings of young people relative to adults and their employment prospects, account is taken of the structure of employment demand and available labour supply.
§ Mr. Peter BottomleyThe conclusion that the employment prospects of young people are adversely affected by the high cost of the labour relative to adults was reached after evaluating the results of a number of studies including work on the structure of employment demand and available labour supply. Some studies do suggest that employment structure and labour supply affect demand for young workers. Such results are not, however, inconsistent with the findings on youth's labour costs.
