HC Deb 04 February 1985 vol 72 c436W
42. Mr. David Marshall

asked the Secretary of State for Transport if he plans to introduce more precise dates for the start of road construction schemes as part of his review of the trunk road programme.

Mrs. Chalker

The actual start dates for trunk road schemes in England depend on the variable impact of three main interlocking factors—their relative priority within the road programme, the amount of resources available in any one year, and the rate of progress of proposed schemes through the necessary design and statutory public consultation processes. Given the variable effect of these factors it would not make sense to produce more precise forecasts of likely start dates than those currently in use.
