HC Deb 04 February 1985 vol 72 c378W
Mr. Boyes

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will seek powers to prohibit the use of the LD 50 poisoning test.

Mr. Mellor

The Government welcome the growing recognition by the scientific community and regulatory bodies that formal LD 50 tests are increasingly not necessary. Where they are shown to be necessary, however, they will continue to be allowed, subject to strict controls. Wherever possible a limit test or some other alternative method should be employed.
