HC Deb 16 December 1985 vol 89 c76W
Viscount Cranborne

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether he has received any advice from the Industrial Injuries Advisory Council about the effects of noise levels in ships' engine rooms; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Newton

We have received no recommendations from the Industrial Injuries Advisory Council about noise in ships' engine rooms.

The council keeps the occupational deafness scheme under continuous review. I understand it is examining noise levels in a number of occupations not at present covered by the scheme, including work in ships' engine rooms. Its recommendations will be carefully considered.
