HL Deb 12 December 1985 vol 469 c456WA
Lord Melchett

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What other actual or possible infringements of the consent conditions attached to the planning permission allowing the draining and peat cutting on part of Duich Moss on Islay have been reported to them, apart from the large drainage ditch illegally dug by Scottish Malt Distillers into the area of Duich Moss which should not have been drained for at least 12 years.

Lord Gray of Contin

The Nature Conservancy Council have suggested that the peripheral drain on the southern boundary of the phase 1 area covered by the planning permission for the extraction of peat from Duich Moss has been dug to the south of the area identified for such works on the plan associated with the grant of planning permission. Further information is being sought from the Nature Conservancy Council to enable a view to be taken as to whether or not the requirements of the planning permission have been infringed by the works involved.
