336WA
§ The Secretary of State for Employment (Lord Young of Graffham)The Manpower Services Commission conducts a regular follow-up survey of young people when they leave the youth training scheme. Questionnaires are sent to young people some three months after they leave the scheme. The Commission distinguishes between those young people who complete their training programmes and those who leave "early" (that is four or more weeks before their programme was due to end). The latest results from this survey show that, of those who left the scheme in the West Midlands during April to June 1985 and who replied to the questionnaire, 2,188 (54 per cent.) were in full-time employment at the time of the survey.
The survey also showed that during the same period some 3,200 young people in the West Midlands left the scheme early. Of these 1,712 replied to the questionnaire and 825 (48 per cent.) were in full-time employment at the time of the survey.
