§ 40. Dr. Mawhinneyasked the Secretary of State for Social Services, on average, how many National Health Service hospital beds are unoccupied on each day of the week.
§ Mr. WhitneyIn 1984, the latest year for which information is available centrally, there was a daily average of 65,188 beds recorded as being available but not occupied in National Health Service hospitals in England. Bed occupancy figures are based on a midnight count and do not therefore reflect the use of beds by patients who do not stay overnight.
