§ Mr. Giles ShawPolice authorities are responsible for fixing the authorised establishment of forces, subject to my right hon. Friend's approval and he looks to Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary for advice on applications from provincial police authorities. My right hon. Friend will shortly be considering a number of applications for increases in force establishments.
