§ Mr. Giles ShawThe essential features of what is known as community policing are that police officers should know the area which they police and understand those whom they serve and protect. Establishing consultative procedures at local level and training in each force have a significant part to play. The support and co-operation of the community is also important, particularly in the inner cities.
