asked the Secretary of State for the Environment when he last met the Sports Council to discuss the implications of the abolition of the metropolitan counties and the Greater London council.

Mr. Tracey

The implications for sport and recreation of the abolition of the metropolitan counties and the GLC have been taken into account in the 1986–87 grant-in-aid settlement for the Sports Council announced recently. I hold regular meetings with the chairman of the council to discuss important issues of this kind.
