§ 38. Mr. Greenwayasked the Secretary of State for the Environment what is his latest estimate of the acreage of derelict land in the Greater London council area; and if he will make a statement.
§ Sir George YoungThe latest information available on the amount of derelict land in England is that contained in the 1982 survey of derelict land. This showed that at 1 April 1982 there were just over 3,900 acres of derelict land in Greater London.
§ 47. Mr. Andrew MacKayasked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will make a statement on the progress of reclaiming derelict land in the inner cities.
§ Sir George YoungResources totalling £69.7 million were spent on derelict land reclamation in 1984–85. Nearly a quarter of this was spent in the inner cities. This year I expect nearly £82 million to be spent and the high priority given to the inner cities will be maintained. The importance that the Government attach to inner city reclamation will be emphasised in a circular to local authorities to be issued shortly.
