HC Deb 04 December 1985 vol 88 c262W
38. Mr. Greenway

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what is his latest estimate of the acreage of derelict land in the Greater London council area; and if he will make a statement.

Sir George Young

The latest information available on the amount of derelict land in England is that contained in the 1982 survey of derelict land. This showed that at 1 April 1982 there were just over 3,900 acres of derelict land in Greater London.

47. Mr. Andrew MacKay

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will make a statement on the progress of reclaiming derelict land in the inner cities.

Sir George Young

Resources totalling £69.7 million were spent on derelict land reclamation in 1984–85. Nearly a quarter of this was spent in the inner cities. This year I expect nearly £82 million to be spent and the high priority given to the inner cities will be maintained. The importance that the Government attach to inner city reclamation will be emphasised in a circular to local authorities to be issued shortly.
