§ Mr. Nicholas Wintertonasked the Prime Minister how the level of Government investment in the textile and clothing industries per capita employee in those industries compares to the level of Government investment per capita employee in (a) the coal mining industry, (b) the motor manufacturing industry, (c) the aerospace industry, (d) the shipbuilding industry and (e) computer manufacture in each of the last five years for which figures are available.
§ The Prime MinisterInformation on Government support for investment is given in the annual reports of the Industrial Development Act 1982 (formerly the Industry Act 1972) of which copies are in the Library of the House. The totals for the clothing industry, coal mining, the motor manufacturing industry, the aerospace industry and computer manufacture are not separately identifiable. However, the reports do give a breakdown of Government support for investment by broader industrial sectors.
Statistics of employment in the industries concerned are published in the Employment Gazette, of which copies are also in the Library, but these statistics are not compiled on quite the same basis as statistics on Government support for investment.
