§ Mr. David Marshallasked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether the decision not to charge tolls on the planned new Dornoch bridge represents a change of the Government's policy relating to estuarial crossings.
§ Mr. AncramNo. It is not Government policy to toll estuarial crossings where to do so would frustrate the objectives of providing the crossing. The Dornoch bridge will form part of the improved A9. To charge tolls could discourage traffic using the bridge in preference to the existing route round the Firth.
§ Mr. David Marshallasked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether arrangements will now be made to abolish toll charges at all estuarial crossings in Scotland.
