§ Mr. Teddy Taylorasked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will introduce legislation to extend the requirement for secret ballots to be held in the case of the election of general secretaries of trade unions so that it applies whether or not they have voting rights in union executive committees.
§ Mr. Peter BottomleyThe provisions of the Trade Union Act 1984 concerning union elections come into force on 1 October 1985. It would be premature to consider amending legislation which is not yet in force.
