HC Deb 17 April 1985 vol 77 cc209-10W
Mr. Nicholas Brown

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will ask the National Radiological Protection Board to review urgently the existing radiation dose limits with a view to reducing them.

Mr. John Patten

The National Radiological Protection Board has been directed by Ministers to advise Government Departments and statutory bodies on the acceptability of and application in the United Kingdom of radiation protection standards recommended by the International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP) and other international bodies. It therefore reviews its advice on maximum permissible doses as and when necessary in the light of recommendation by the ICRP. This is the body recognised internationally as responsible for recommending values of maximum permissible exposure to ionising radiation.
