HC Deb 17 April 1985 vol 77 c173W
Mr. Neale

asked the Secretary of State for Transport whether he will review direction signs, particularly those relating to tourist attractions.

Mrs. Chalker

I am pleased to announce that we have set up a review which will not only seek ways of improving signs for tourists, but also of improving the information on all directional route signs. It will also consider whether greater use can be made of variable message signs.

The review will be carried out jointly with my right hon. Friends the Secretaries of State for Scotland and for Wales and will be completed within two to three years.

As part of the review, we shall be consulting and fully considering the views of associations representing local authority, police, road user and road safety interests.
