HC Deb 17 April 1985 vol 77 c165W
Mr. Murphy

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will take steps to ban the sale of the kung fu weapon known as "Death Stars".

Mr. Giles

Shaw [pursuant to his reply, 15 April 1985, c. 12]: My right hon. and learned Friend has no plans to do so. As I stated in a previous pursuant reply to a question from my hon. Friend on 1 April, at column 449, there are many articles sold for legitimate purposes such as carving knives, scissors and razor blades which could be used as an offensive weapon and it would be quite impracticable to try to ban their sale. The police have not asked for tighter controls on "Death Stars" and no cases of misuse have been brought to my attention. We shall, however, continue to keep a close watch on the situation.
